Easy Skincare Resolutions to Kick off 2017

By: Rene Sacchitella

This is the year. This time we can incorporate easy lifestyle changes that create a big impact. It is easier to prevent skin care concerns rather to correct skin care conditions. Yet, most of us don’t think about the little things that can help us from premature aging. Sometimes the simplest of beauty tips and tricks can be the most helpful in the long run. Here are some simple skincare resolutions to help us slay in this new year.

Stop sleeping in Makeup

Sure it's easy to forget sometimes. But this seemingly minor skincare sin can have a large impact. When one sleeps in their makeup, is can create the perfect environment for infections, and cause lots of redness or irritation. Sleeping in your foundation can also cause breakouts even if the foundation is not comedogenic. This is because there is dirt and oil from the day stuck on top of the skin. This barrier of foundation and grime can also inhibit the skin to properly take in nutrients and repair at night, which can also cause wrinkles later. If nothing else, washing your skin with a hydrating cleanser like Lait Nettoyant from YonKa or Image’s Vital C Cleanser can allow your skin to breathe.

Start making a promise to wear sunscreen everyday

There isn’t an alternative to sunscreen. As stated countless times before, it’s important. The UVA and UVB radiation breaks down the collagen production of of our skin creating wrinkles, causing hyperpigmentation  and leaving us susceptible for skin cancer. The easiest way to protect against the sun is using sunscreen. A quick application of a foundation/bb/cc cream that doubles as a day cream and as a sunscreen is a great option. Image’s Flawless Foundations replaces the need for day cream by delivering peptides to strengthen the skin against wrinkle production, salicylic acid to prevent breakouts, and is potent in titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to provide broad spectrum sun protection.  It’s a multidimensional  simple step that adds more time to your morning routine.

Wash up after a big workout

After new year's, gyms rejoice in a new determination in their clients. We all want to become healthier than the previous year. It is important to first have clean skin going into a workout; however it is usually forgotten to wash up after a workout. When we sweat our pores open with perspiration. When this happens, we become susceptible to “workout breakouts” since dirt and oil can become trapped while our pores are in this enlarged state. It is important to either make sure you shower after a workout or at least use a toner in the meantime before you get home. Clarifying Salicylic Pads from Image can quickly destroy the acne causing bacteria on the chest back and face to help stay clear until you can shower at home.

Don’t forget about your body

The skin on the body is definitely thicker and tougher than the skin on our face. Sometimes because it is more resilient, we forget to give it attention. Hydration and exfoliation are also key when taking care of the body. A good sugar scrub is great for tough areas on the body especially in a bath or shower. After bathing it’s imperative to hydrate, especially in dry Colorado. Since the primary cause of aging is dehydrated cells we want to always be nourishing to prevent damage. A good body oil could do just the trick to lock in the benefits from a steamy bath or shower. YonKa’s Huile Corps is a triple action oil repairs the driest or most damaged skin, while firming the epidermis to give a supple feel to the skin. We also forget about our exposed areas on our body. Have a good hand lotion in your purse or at the desk at work to help dry exposed areas like our hands.

Clean Your Makeup Brushes

The culprit of random breakouts, and clogged pores, our makeup brushes can become the perfect environment for infections and infestations to breed. Even microfiber makeup brushes like Image’s Flawless Foundation Brushes that are resistant to bacteria need to be cleaned to maintain performance and prevent damage. Disinfecting the brushes in a vinegar-water solution then lathering baby shampoo into the bristles to rinsing with lukewarm water tends to be the best DIY method. Whether if it a DIY method or buying a device, we want to stress that it is best to clean these brushes at least once a month.
